How to use Huawei Power-Fi E8231 in 2g mode on latest Firmware.

Many User & reviewers are complaining that the ability to force 3G-only mode is removed in the latest software update. This is not true. It has only been made more complicated and difficult to find, for some inexplicable reason.

In the config page, go to Settings --> Network Settings. Make sure "Support 3G networks" checkbox is ticked. Change Network Mode to Manual and click Apply. The datacard will now search for all available networks in your area. However, 2G and 3G networks of the same network provider are listed separately. So if you choose the 3G network, in effect you are forcing the 3G-only mode, like before. See attached screenshots.

I am using an Airtel SIM card, and I can see Airtel 3G and Airtel 2G listed separately. So I select Airtel 3G, and that's it. Just note that if you change your SIM card to another network, remember to change the network yourself (since you have set it to manual).

As for the datacard itself, I cannot think of anything major to complain about, and other reviewers have talked about it, so I don't have anything more to add. Definitely the best datacard for under ₹2000.
